Soon after moving to Pacifica in 1997, Ana and I walked Linda Mar Beach to find it littered and neglected! Turning dismay into action, we began cleaning up, joining local Penny Keating who was just starting the Beach Coalition.

We Started PBC in 1997

This tiny group of volunteers is now a San Mateo County leader in environmental stewardship. We have collected hundreds of tons of trash, energized 8,000+ participants for Earth Day, the most volunteers for Coastal Cleanup Day in SMC, led dozens of educational school assemblies, secured scores of corporate give-backs, collectively restored our county beaches and more!  We’ve also won numerous awards and grants…but we dream now of growing into a MORE expansive and inclusive organization up and down the Pacific Coast!
