Protection of the Snowy Plover Wintering Habitat on Pacifica State Beach

How they help us:

About Pacifica Shorebird Alliance:

The Pacifica Shorebird Alliance (PSA) is a group of volunteers in Pacifica, California, working to engage and educate the public about the protection of local coastal birds and their eco-communities. PSA is a project of Pacifica’s Environmental Family, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

PSA is working with the City of Pacifica and Sequoia Audubon Society, with guidance from regional scientists and review by the California Coastal Commission, to implement signage and seasonal symbolic fencing for roosting winter snowy plovers on Pacifica State Beach.
Many do not realize that there is a federally recognized snowy plover habitat at Pacifica State Beach or where it is. Below is a group on the beach directly in the main habitat roosting area. Symbolic fencing with signs will show people where the main habitat is, and help educate the public to give these endangered birds some space. Without signs and symbolic fencing, repeated disturbances can cause snowy plovers to abandon their habitat.
