October Surprises At Rockaway Cleanup!
What a day of surprises and dedication at the Rockaway Beach cleanup this October! Amidst the noble efforts of our volunteers, an unexpected whale and a friendly seal graced our shores. As we combed the beach, we couldn’t help but notice the increasing presence of seaweed, which also brought with it an array of plastic debris and miscellaneous items.
Our dedicated team of volunteers did an outstanding job, collecting two large bags of trash, totaling 36 pounds, alongside a bucket full of cans, two buckets of recyclables, and over 1,000 cigarette butts. The amount of litter we picked up is a reminder of the work we still have ahead of us to protect our precious coastline. Amidst the plastic and waste, our cleanup also unveiled some intriguing finds – from carpet tiles to single shoes, sand toys, a fancy dog toy, and even a fan. A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their relentless commitment to keeping our beaches pristine!
We appreciate everyone who supports Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and educational programs. Thank you for helping us to protect our beautiful ocean and coastline by donating money, time, or both! Your dollars will go towards our ongoing educational efforts (such as the Naturalists program) and our beach cleanups and habitat restoration efforts along the coastal trail. Thank you so much for any contribution: big or small!
