Major 2018 Success: No More Green Smoke Bombs Fireworks
Every year, despite the fireworks law in order, our volunteers pick up thousands of pound of burnt fireworks on the beaches but this year, thanks to our actions, we have some good news to report!!
The green smoke bombs that leave the green plastic half circles (as shown in picture below) have been removed from the Pacifica Firework sales because of our advocacy showing how many we’ve found at the beaches after the 4th and all year long.
By documenting the problem and raising awareness, the firework supplier removed them from the Pacifica Sales.
For the last 3 years we collected them and showed them to council and at the Fireworks Task force meetings.
This year for the first time they have been removed from the kits.
SUCCESS!
IMPORTANT Reminder: Illegal fireworks are prohibited on all Pacifica beaches according to the California Health and Safety Code. There are NO fireworks of any type allowed on any beaches in the City of Pacifica, except for a defined portion of Pacifica State Beach/Linda Mar. There are also two other sites where legal “safe and sane” fireworks are allowed. Legal fireworks must have the State Fire Marshal seal of approval.
