June 27, 2015 Mussel Rock Cleanup
We were blessed with sightings of whales and new out-of-town volunteers, comprising a party of 8 deaf adolescents visiting with their church pastor and 2 chaperone interpreters from Texas. The day was warm and sunny. We welcomed new volunteers who were very enthusiastic about their task to clean up the Mussel Rock area. Most of them wanted to swim in the ocean, but we assured them that this ocean is too cold for them compared to the Gulf of Mexico that they are used to. There were 20 volunteers who collected over 50 pounds of trash and recyclables.
Convalescent, Joe Recto, helped clean up with the assistance of his walker frame that he had rigged a bucket to in order to collect cigarette butts.
Afterwards, I showed Dave Ellers and Christine Burr my honeybees.
