CCD At Busy Linda Mar Beach!
We arrived at 7:45 this morning to set up for Coastal Cleanup Day, 2015 to find NO PARKING. NONE! Why? A big surf competition, Surf Camp, whale-watchers, dog-walkers and just people loving our precious ocean environment! But beach heroes are not deterred by people problems; they are much more dedicated than that. So they came. From parking lots near and far, by foot, in carpools. And Coastal Cleanup Day 2015/Tsunami Debris Cleanup at Linda Mar Beach was off! Jim, Ana, Tom and Meredith led over 125 volunteers who attacked the beach with abandon. Our fantastic volunteers returned again and again, filling their buckets with litter that would have drifted out, most certainly hurting our whale friends, who as usual, were putting on a show. Volunteers reported that the beach was already very clean, thanks to ongoing efforts by Pacificans and visitors. But still they filled bags with hidden trash from dunes, parking lots, creeks and more, and after two hours, the beach was spotless. All headed off to our special celebration at Sharp Park with speeches, ribbon-cuttings, visits by PBC members from many years… and cake.
