64 Volunteers Defy the Downpour at Linda Mar
It rained and it poured on Saturday, November 18 at the monthly Linda Mar beach cleanup! Volunteers spent a nervous couple of days before the cleanup watching the weather closely, and at 8:30 am, half an hour before the cleanup began, the rain began to pour. Our friends from Irvington High School in Fremont persisted and said “let’s do it!”
Ana, Jim, Marlee, Ella, Charlie took the reins as Abby set up the naturalist booth. Thankfully we got a break for about an hour and our hardy volunteers headed out, but at 10:00 am it started pouring again! Our persistent and soaking wet volunteers rounded up and we sorted trash, took pictures and celebrated while the rains came down. Lynn and Ellen also popped in toward the end and helped sort and spoke to our volunteers amidst the downpour.
Not a single complaint was made as volunteers hefted and sorted lots of small pieces of plastic, big metal debris and plenty of plastic and glass bottles that were pulled from the beach. Thank you to our brave, enduring, and positive 64 volunteers who still made the cleanup fun, and who ultimately collected 50 pounds of trash, 15 pounds of recycling, and a bagful of compostables! Here’s to hoping for clear skies next time!
We appreciate everyone who supports Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and educational programs. Thank you for helping us to protect our beautiful ocean and coastline by donating money, time, or both! Your dollars will go towards our ongoing educational efforts (such as the Naturalists program) and our beach cleanups and habitat restoration efforts along the coastal trail. Thank you so much for any contribution: big or small!
