Whales, Rain, & Teamwork at San Pedro Creek
Despite the drizzle, 19 dedicated volunteers gathered on a damp morning to tackle the garbage that could otherwise find its way into San Pedro Creek. The full attendance of site captains, junior site captains, families, friends, and the knowledgeable Naturalist Abby added an extra layer of passion to the cleanup, especially with Abby sharing valuable insights about the ocean and its magical inhabitants, including lots of information about whales.
The determined group of volunteers managed to collect an impressive 46 pounds of trash and prevented about 200 cigarette butts from entering storm drains and potentially polluting waterways. The pick-up itself is always rewarding but so is the company. We are looking forward to next month when there will most likely be more to clean on the surrounding banks of the creek after (fingers crossed!) some rainfall brings down some garbage to be saved before it gets to the ocean.
We appreciate everyone who supports Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and educational programs. Thank you for helping us to protect our beautiful ocean and coastline by donating money, time, or both! Your dollars will go towards our ongoing educational efforts (such as the Naturalists program) and our beach cleanups and habitat restoration efforts along the coastal trail. Thank you so much for any contribution: big or small!
