Saturday morning at Surfer’s Beach was filled with joy and community spirit as a vibrant group of volunteers gathered to clean up the shoreline. Among them was a Girl Scout troop consisting of enthusiastic little girls, proudly wearing badges and eager to explore the wonders of the beach. Their presence added an extra touch of sweetness to the event, as they soaked up knowledge about marine conservation.

The collective effort of 84 dedicated volunteers resulted in a significant impact on the beach’s cleanliness. A staggering 269 pounds of trash were collected along with 25 pounds of recyclables salvaged. It was disheartening to discover the presence of 1,131 discarded cigarette butts, serving as a reminder of the ongoing challenge in combating littering habits. Nevertheless, the determination and energy displayed by the volunteers, including the Girl Scouts, served as an inspiration for all, emphasizing the power of community engagement in protecting our precious coastal ecosystems.
