Youth Volunteers Shine at Esplanade Beach
The recent cleanup at Esplanade on May 20th was a resounding success, thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of 34 volunteers, including 10 remarkable high-schoolers undergoing training to become new junior site captains and paving the way for a new wave of leadership in environmental conservation. We are thrilled to witness the passion and commitment of these young change-makers, and we’re excited to announce that another junior site captain training will be held during our next cleanup!
On May 20th, volunteers collected 76 pounds of garbage and 7 pounds of recycling. The most striking find, however, was the staggering count of over 1300 cigarette butts. This serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of single-use items on our environment and the importance of raising awareness about responsible disposal.
Mark your calendars for our upcoming cleanup at Esplanade on June 17th! We hope to see familiar faces and welcome new volunteers as we continue our mission to protect and preserve our beautiful surroundings. Together, we can make a significant difference in building a cleaner and greener future.
Join us and be part of the positive change!
We appreciate everyone who supports Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and educational programs. Thank you for helping us to protect our beautiful ocean and coastline by donating money, time, or both! Your dollars will go towards our ongoing educational efforts (such as the Naturalists program) and our beach cleanups and habitat restoration efforts along the coastal trail. Thank you so much for any contribution: big or small!
