Who Are The Earth Honorees

Each year, our team selects Earth Honorees—species that we pledge to learn about and educate others on throughout the year. These honorees can be birds, fish, mammals, insects, or plants, typically native to the Northern Pacific Ocean or Northern Pacific Coast. Whether or not they are on the endangered list, they are chosen to highlight crucial environmental messages for the year.

Our Earth Honoree guides our educational programs, materials, and communication efforts for the year. By focusing on a specific species, we aim to connect our volunteers and the community to a tangible representation of the environment. This connection helps us all realize that our actions, both at home and at the beach, have a significant impact on these species, whether positive or negative. Through learning about our Earth Honoree, we hope to inspire a transformation in behavior, turning negative impacts into positive actions.

Who Decides Next Year’s Earth Honoree

You!
Our active members come to our monthly meeting in July and do a little presentation to educate the rest of the members about the Earth Honoree and why it should be selected.
Then the active member vote in August and start submitting slogans. In September and right before FogFest, the list of slogan goes down to 3 so that the FogFest crowd can vote on the final one.
