Did Jeff Find a New Tsunami Marine Debris?
Report from our Mussel Rock volunteer Jeff Christner:
“Did a quick post Earth Day hike around Mussel Rock at low tide today and the beach was mostly accessible, albeit with some dangerous climbing over some of the sea wall rocks. Found a sea lion, who I thought was dead at first, but I think he was just resting, he soon scampered off into the ocean. Also found a broken plastic crate with some Japanese or Chinese writing on it. The crate had the classic brittle feel to it, similar to other possible tsunami debris we’ve found, and it also had the gooseneck mussels on it too. I picked up the larger pieces of styrofoam on the beach, but honestly there was so much on the beach, a lot of smaller pieces really, it would have taken longer to pick up than the tide would be out.”
