302 Lbs of Trash Collected at Marina Plaza Shopping Center
Over 50 volunteers braved the rain to come out and clean up their local community this past weekend, and they didn’t come up short on trash! In total, 302 pounds of garbage was collected, with an additional 86 pounds of recyclable materials.
And the cleanup was not without its interesting finds. Among the typical litter of cigarette butts, volunteers discovered a suitcase, a large and heavy piece of broken glass /windshield, a table, a paint/oil bucket, and even car parts. These unusual items were collected along with the standard litter, filling up the two-gallon bucket to the brim with approximately 3000 cigarette butts!
Despite the wet weather, the cleanup was a huge success, thanks to the 54 volunteers who came out to lend a hand. Junior site captains Anya & Asha were instrumental in ensuring that everything ran smoothly by checking, weighing, and separating the collected trash.
The success of the event was further highlighted by a passing Samaritan who offered to haul a large table, paint, and other broken planks to the dump in his pickup truck. This act of kindness was deeply appreciated and a true testament to the community’s willingness to work together, and the community’s local Starbucks team also came out in full spirit and joined as a large group.
The community cleanup was a huge success, and a reminder that working together can make a significant impact on the environment and our communities.
